'Renewal' by Greg McElhatton.
A worthy victor, I must say. Since my own story 'The City' was shortlisted in this competition, I was very pleased for the kind words from the Judge, Walter Jon Williams, about the runners-up.
'The City' was only the third piece of flash fiction I've ever written and it was my very first short-story competition entry. So, despite not actually winning, I'm counting this as a success.
My first flash fiction story 'Sales Call' was broadcast on National radio here in Australia (read by Nick Eales). It's a story written to be read aloud so I'm hoping to persuade Wifie to record it for me one day (she has a lovely reading voice) so I can podcast it.
Maybe all this flash fiction success ought to tell me something...
